Inaugural Leaders Award
27th March 2010
Hans Loder, Katnook Estate’s Assistant Vineyard and Technical Manager, has been granted the inaugural Emerging Leaders Award by the Limestone Coast Wine Industry Council, with the aid of the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation's “Grass Roots Solutions” program.
The award supports and mentors technical based young people of the Limestone Coast region, who will become the future leaders and innovators within this rapidly growing industry. It recognises Hans’ current achievements in the viticulture industry and will facilitate further learning about the use of non – irrigated frost protection methods, which was identified as one of the Limestone Coast region’s key extension priorities.
Hans will use the prize money to attend the International Cool Climate Viticulture Conference in Seattle, California in June this year. En route, he will visit several prominent frost research institutions: Marlborough Wine Research Centre (New Zealand), UC Davis (California), Brock Institute (Canada) and Geisenheim (Germany). Collation of this research will comprise a revision of the frost protection user’s guide that Hans completed in 2008, to include chapters specifically focussed on these non – irrigated methods.
