Katnook New Cellar Door Opens

Katnook New Cellar Door Opens

4th January 2010

Katnook Estate proudly announces its new Cellar Door is now open, following extensive restoration of its 1896 limestone buildings.  Local stone and timbers feature extensively throughout the interiors.

Coonawarra Wine region founder, John Riddoch, once ran his flourishing fruit colony from this building. More than a century later, visitors to Katnook Estate can savour the history of the region in this beautifully renovated Cellar Door. A lounge area boasts a peaceful outlook across the vineyards from this building, which features on all Katnook Estate labels. At the entrance to the new Cellar Door, a deep pit shows visitors the famous "terra rossa" soil profile - promoting the link between soil and wine quality. Complimentary coffee is served daily.

Katnook Estate gratefully acknowledges the assistance of Tourism SA in providing a $50 000 grant towards the project. The blend of a historic building with contemporary interiors is sure to attract many more visitors to the Coonawarra region.

The former stables have also been restored and can be booked for conferences or private functions by calling the winery on 08 8737 0300 or emailing cellardoor@katnookestate.com.au

Open daily from 10am-5pm during the week and 11am-5pm weekends, the Katnook Estate Cellar Door is located on the Riddoch Highway, 6 km north of the town of Penola.
