Katnook at the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations

Katnook at the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations

23rd October 2008

Coonawarra was the place to be on October 17-19, when over 40 cellar doors joined forces to offer events such as special dinners, master classes, private vineyard tours and everything in between. With World famous wines, gourmet food and funky tunes, Australia’s Other Red Centre was a hub of festivity.

For Katnook Estate, the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations kicked off on Friday night with the traditional Kurri Klub at Katnook feast in the historic stables. Meanwhile, at Zema Estate the inaugural Retrospective Barrel Series Tasting was held under the guidance of Bordeaux expert, Michael Schuster. At the other end of the scale, The Poplars was host to the Coonawarra Tutorial which taught novice wine lovers how to taste and compare eight different Coonawarra wines. Michael Schuster again brought his talents to this presentation.

To culminate the entire weekend, DiGiorgio Family Wines set the scene for the Cabernet Brunch and auction. This year had an entirely new theme encompassing a silent and live auction with one-of-a-kind auction items that you can only find in Coonawarra! With a record number of registered bidders, the floor was a frenzy of waving paddles. The Artistry of Wine paired 25 different Coonawarra wines with 25 different Limestone Coast Artists and created the most interesting and eye-catching auction item of the day. This item took home the highest bid in the live auction of $5300.

Katnook Estate was delighted to welcome visitors to its Cellar Door from around Australia and showcased the 2001 Katnook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, which was eagerly purchased as a "one off" from the museum.
