Gold for Deakin Estate Viognier - and now a silver
29th September 2008
The Perth Wine Show has awarded a Gold Medal to the Deakin Estate 2008 Viognier. Priced at around $10, this first offering of Viognier from Deakin Estate offers exceptional value. The same wine went on to win a Silver Medal at the Rutherglen Wine Show in late September 2008.
Picked when citrus and tropical flavours were peaking and then fermented cold in stainless steel using aromatic yeast, this Viognier captures the essence of the variety’s flavour at its ideal ripeness. No barrels, nothing fancy, just pure, intense Viognier.
Light straw in colour with a green tinge, this intensely fruity wine shows lime, pineapple, quince and custard apple – a fruit bomb. Lay back and put on your shades because everyone’s in a Hawaiian shirt. Tightly structured with a fruit-burst of acid, plenty of tropical fruit flavour and a seriously fine acid finish.
Delicious chilled on its own or try with freshly shucked oysters.
